While half of the academy was split into writing articles the other was spilt into little groups to investigate on a topic of a video and expand on that. The group I was in also incorporated Sara Cadena and Pedro Sanchez. We investigated and interviewed numerous different teachers from elementary all the way to high school. Each with their own unique passion. The most interesting passion that I heard today was of one teacher who did arts and crafts. He makes random objects such as a bag, a stylus, or a wallet out of old things or even out of garbage. My favorite one he made was his gym bag which he made out of an old surf kite which was ripped.

Today we completed and uploaded the first movie we made! Although our planning skills failed to some extent we succeeded. We succeeded because from that failure we learned from our mistake, planning. Learning through experience is called project based learning. Our video now being up on YouTube seems to be flourishing. Innova Schools: Today I learned that the founder of Innova Schools was a businessman who wanted to help give education in a more innovative way to people who are less fortunate. While at Innova Schools we saw many innovative factors to the classrooms. For example the magnetic white boards, the hexagon shaped desks, and the colors of the different classrooms. We also got see the students during their classes. The students seemed very happy and excited to be at this school, I could see it on their facial expressions while paying attention to the class. As we passed by the little kids, the younger grades, were all jumping out of there seats and waving at us in a cute manner. It was really a joyful and special moment to have had witnessed. I found the school really amazing and interesting. Although, I couldn't help but disagree with one of the curriculums explained by the founder. He believed that in a class it was possible to occupy 60 students who would be consistently working on their laptops without distractions. While the teacher would just be monitoring the class by putting the students completion of work on a projector for everyone to see. The positive side to this, which he mentioned, is that the students can then see whose ahead. To then go and ask them for help. Which I believe is wonderful, if they actually do that. However, I witnessed a class like this my freshman year except with less students. Many of the students were lazy and asked for answers instead of help. With this kind of curriculum you can't actually prove if the student is doing it themselves or if they are getting it from a family member or a friend, so cheating is easy and un-provable. The teacher cannot monitor or notice that because they act as a substitute. I am not implying that these students might cheat, I am just stating that cheating is as high of a possibility as asking for help. Adding on to my argument, it has also been proven that being in front of a computer for too long is not good for your health. In this article it explains why being in front of an electronic screen for too long is bad. You should check it out! http://kidshealth.org/parent/positive/family/tv_affects_child.html Interbank Explora: At this specific Interbank there where many aspects that made it unique in comparison to other banks. For example: to enlighten the customers happiness and liveliness they were offered free coffee. As well did the customers have a lounge sort of area to rest on while waiting to be attended. There was also a TV playing funny videos to keep the customers in good humor. The funny videos included pranks done to random people. Another aspect of unique-ness that comes with this bank is that when there is 5 minutes left until you are next to be attended, they send you a text message. So you could go off and run some errands instead of waiting. I found that super innovative and convenient. What I found most eye popping out of the visit was that each week or month they would try a new form of interior design. Meaning that everything, in the store was movable. The cubicle like things they had was all movable within the are of the store. "Change is inevitable - except from a vending machine." ~Robert C. Gallagher Honestly, I have never be very fond of reading. In reading The Secret of the Seven Seeds by David fischman has felt different. Different because I cannot stop reading the book. It is incredibly well written. The analogies that are used frequently help visualize and understand everything perfectly. Much of what is talked about in the book involves meditation giving it also a sense of peace and relaxation when reading, at least for me. Favorite Quote so far: "Ignacio, the human mind is like an iceberg. The conscious mind is the tip that is outside the water. But that iceberg has immense mass of information submerged under the water that we cannot see: the unconscious." Already having finished my article and knowing that by today at around 3:30 or so it would be published, I was ready to go ballistic. Just the thought of my own work being up and published by my name had me exhilarated. I wrote my article on a product called Never Wet. Summarizing it briefly, it repels any liquid from touching it using two separate spray coatings. It is used popularly among construction workers because they get into really messy situations. In the process of making our first video, to be published on the daily bulliten, many of us had different roles to play. The jobs varied from being the filmer, the light adjuster, the director, the editor, the anchorman, and a couple others. I happened to be one of the anchor people who would talk in between scenarios of the video. Although it may seem easy to just say a sentence in front of the camera, having to say it with attitude or optimism can be difficult. That is something that I learned, how to be under the spotlight. Hands crossed. Psychology has always been a topic of big interest to me. Therefore, what stood out most to me today was the video we saw about Shawn Achor explaining positive psychology. In order to explain positive psychology Shawn Achor used a story of when his sister and him were younger. They were fooling around like children tend to do and Shawn's sister fell of the bed ending up severely hurt. However, Shawn quickly made her believe she was a unicorn changing all that sadness and pain into a sudden rush of delight and happiness. In that moment there was nothing else that could've distracted her into being optimistic than the want to be a unicorn. Within the story he went of pin pointing each correlation leading to his main point which was positive psychology, I admired how he was able to do that. That day we not only learned about positive psychology but also the best way to express something is through a story. Today we learned how to use Trello. It is a very efficient way of organization everything into one place. It is like having your own file cabinet where you can move paper work around. For example you can place the paper work that hasn't been started into one cabinet, in this case one section. Then the paper work in the process could be put into another cabinet, again in this case a section. Finally being able to put all the work done and completed into one cabinet to look back upon. The Break is an online newspaper which is part of Peru this Week. They provide variations of Global news but also news about Peru. Anything happening in Peru and or involving Peru. They strive to make Peru more known through out the world, that is there goal. Joining forces with this crew and helping them write and publish articles is what we are going to begin to do. I am looking forward to writing an article on something that interests me and having it be published with my name as the author. I already have an idea... Today in class we shared our prototype ideas of how to spread news across the campus in a unique manner. We left our prototypes out and around the classroom for other students to critique and or compliment. For one my groups prototype we me made a website that would incorporate everything having to do with the news of the school. For example the website would be the trunk of the tree while the other ideas would be connected to it as its branches. The branches would be what makes the trunk not be in solitude and what makes it reach out for sunlight, in this case students. Although the website was still a bit too vague, it was a prototype which needed work. With the feedback we got we were able to find out that extra work that was needed. |
